Echoes Beneath the Surface is an original painting that reflects Theo Mercer’s fascination with identity, memory and transformation. Built through successive layers of paint, marks and revisions, the work reveals its own history of creation.
Fragments of a human presence emerge from a complex surface of colour and texture, only to dissolve back into abstraction. Mercer intentionally leaves evidence of change visible, allowing earlier decisions and imperfections to remain part of the final composition.
